Confessions of a shopping addict
Do you ever find yourself shopping for just ONE more item to stick on your wall even though it is so full it is about to fall over? Or do you ever find yourself bargaining with yourself that you will go shopping but ONLY for a little while, and ONLY for items that your REALLY need? Do you ever get home from a shopping trip and realize you don't know where to put that item you just had to have, and that you feel a little guilty for buying it because you could have lived without it? That, my friends, is called buyer's remorse, and YOU, dear friend, may have a little shopping addiction of your own! I would like to state for the record that I am much reformed these days, and purposely do not allow myself to make as many trips, to stay as long at any one place and to only buy things that I truly have a use for... Uh Oh...That was one of the signs of addiction I mentioned earlier, wasn't it? Denial... Oh well. You caught me. I am a shopping addict.
But seriously... No home can truly be cozy and comfortable if it is stuffed to the gills with things. I also find that it makes it impossible to clean with too many things to move before you sweep or too many things to dust. So, take my advice. Cut back on the things you don't really need. Only collect things you need and or LOVE, have yard sales or donate to Goodwill often and find another outlet for your love of all things antique and country. I enjoy reading Country Sampler and trying my hand at my own country crafts and rustics.
But, when I do allow myself to go shopping for the home, here are some of my favorite places: My favorite antique stores include The Logan Antique Store in Logan, Ohio, Spring St. Antiques in Rockbridge, Ohio, The Old Shoe Factory in Lancaster, Ohio and Rush Creek also in Lancaster. It is nice because all of these stores are within 30 minutes drive time of each other which makes for a fun and exhausting day if you are up to it. Honestly though, I have never been able to shop in more than two of these stores in one day. If it is a country store you are looking for, then Mulberry Lane in Parkersburg, West Virginia is a place you must visit. It is chock full of pottery, silk flowers, furniture, dishes, knickknacks, candles, etc. It is full of great decorating ideas and smells SO great! It is more than a shopping trip. I consider it a mini vacation or a destination! The downside is that it is a bit expensive and most things are made in China. I have found that I can occasionally find similar items in Crafts 2000. But, like I said, Mulberry Lane is a wonderful experience. It is the only store in the area that I know of except for Simply Primitives (also in Parkersburg and also great) that reminds me of the stores in Amish Country!
Anyone else know of any great antique stores and/or country stores? Have self control, friends, and happy shopping!
