If you love flowers as I do, you know the power they have to lift the spirits and liven the senses. That is why I believe that incorporating flowers into your decor is essential not only for their obvious beauty, but also for your inner peace! While it is true that flowers can be a more costly item (when you consider that they do not last very long and must be constantly replaced), there are ways to make having them always around the home a more affordable reality. Here are a few suggestions to make "smelling the roses" a little easier!
Cut flowers are fairly easy to find during the Spring, Summer and Fall seasons. You can purchase them at a local florist, buy some at the grocery while picking up your food items for the week, pick them from your garden or pick the wildflowers in your backyard or along the side of a country road. I prefer the last three options... I find that the flowers at Kroger are both beautiful and affordable as long as you don't buy them around the major holidays. I buy them this way fairly often or else my husband surprises me with them, knowing that flowers are one of my favorite things! I also love to pick flowers from my own garden during the Spring and Summer months. I enjoy making a few bouquets of Irises, Rhododendrons or Lilies to name a few. Lastly, I enjoy the adventure and variety in picking wildflowers. The adventure to me is in finding beauties of all different shapes, sizes and colors and arranging them in an interesting way! (During the Winter months, I usually place pine cones all around the home for their beauty and texture, along with many pleasant smelling pine branches and candles.)
Next, I'd like to suggest that you do not have to take one bouquet and place it in a vase in one room and have only ...well...one! Why not place six roses (or whatever type of bloom you may like) in one lovely vase to put on your dining room table, three roses in another smaller vase to put on the dresser in your bedroom, and three in a vase in your bathroom! Spread the beauty around! Believe me, you will enjoy going from room to room when you are doing the laundry or your household chores when you have them to welcome you as you go! They also seem to have the ability to bring a sense of calm and vitality to an otherwise often hectic and chaotic home. So, go ahead, ladies...Do stop and smell the roses as often as you'd like... It is more affordable and necessary than you may realize!
