I have been growing some hot banana peppers in two ways this year; one plant is in a bucket on my porch and I have several other plants in my regular garden. This is the first year we have ever grown them, and I am very pleased with them for many reasons. I would like to recommend them to you for three reasons: their beauty, hardiness and great taste.
I have enjoyed having this plant on my porch and watching it grow taller each day, flower, and then start to grow the tiny (then large!) yellow peppers! It is an attractive plant as far as vegetables go. It does not appear to attract insects (or anything else for that matter! ) It is not appealing to deer or Japanese beetles as far as I can tell!
It is hardy and easy to grow because it did not mind being in too much sun, did not need much water and (as I mentioned earlier) did not attract insects that wanted to devour it! I have been having some trouble with the tomato plants on my porch. Seems like they can't get enough water. But, the pepper has been thriving effortlessly.
The peppers off these plants have an excellent, mild taste. At least, I don't think they are really very hot. I have been eating them on sandwiches and in omelettes! I was thinking of trying them in "banana" bread, but the banana would be banana peppers! I don't know if that would be good (probably not!) but, with sugar, you never know! After all, who would have thought zucchini would be good in bread? Lol.
I will try to post some pictures of my pepper plants tomorrow or in a few days! Do any of you have any new plants you have tried in your garden this year? I would love to hear from you! And see some photos! Feel free to post at any time! God bless!
